Introspection

Through the years they resisted

Kept a close, tensed watch

Permitting me to travel only in near proximity

Where they can strictly observe and put me to a stop

Small things bringing them unintentional dishonor

Causing them unintended humiliation

Little by little being ripped apart by their disgrace

Bit by bit tearing the little that was left

Because of the imagined infamy

I was branded till infinity

Marked with an invisible sign on my forehead

That only they could see

They held me in a tight upright position

Awkward, like a marionette on a short string

Manipulated and directed to go straight

Precisely parallel to the main

Then it happened when I met you

Said this was not suppose to be

Terrified of scandals and outrage

But there was no way out of my destined fate

There was no denying the sensations that you unlocked

You opened the gates that soothed me to safety

Quenching this baffling thirst

Of wanting and needing the unexplained

You changed me in so many ways that I could not number

Showing me that life can still be lovely

It was simply up to me

Neatly tucked in your loving arms

I became bold and daring

At any time ready to slug it out to a fight

With you by my side there are no limits

I can now do many things like never before

Feeling pure, unadulterated warmth you bring

I became tough and resilient

They have banished me in an exile so remote

But I am held hostage no more

Unlimited to experience these once forbidden excitements

Of you touching my very soul
